Liverpool’s Premier League Title Chances for Next Season

Newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool will head into the 2025/26 season with a sizeable target on their backs.

The Reds are 2/1 favourites to retain the Premier League with Betway and will undoubtedly fancy their chances of keeping their rivals at bay.

Arne Slot’s side defied the Premier League betting odds this time around to clinch top spot with four games to spare. Repeating the trick could be difficult.

Reds Reign Supreme

Liverpool have capitalised during a season where every one of their traditional title rivals has failed to live up to expectations.

Manchester City went into the new campaign chasing a fifth consecutive title, but were never able to force themselves into contention.

Arsenal were the closest pursuers to Liverpool for much of the season, but too many drawn games scuppered their hopes of mounting a sustained challenge.

Chelsea briefly threatened to enter the title fray before slipping away, while Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur vanished without trace.

None of the other teams in contention for a top four finish never looked like getting close to top spot, leaving Liverpool with a free run at the title.

Summer Recruitment Crucial

Slot has already acknowledged that his team must improve next season. Some pundits believe they have been lucky this term, and he is eager to disprove that theory.

The Dutchman is desperate to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are expected to be busy during the summer transfer window.

A deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has already been agreed and he will officially join the club on July 1.

Liverpool must replace outgoing right-back Trent Alexander Arnold, while an upgrade on left-back Andy Roberston is required. The Reds may also need to strengthen at centre-back.

The club are well-stocked in midfield, although they may need to move into the market if Harvey Elliott decides his future lies elsewhere.

Striker Darwin Nunez has been tipped to leave the club and will need to be replaced, while Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have been linked with summer moves.

Liverpool’s squad will look a little different when the new season gets underway and there is no guarantee they will hit the ground running.

Will Fenway Provide the Funds for Another Title Run?

One of the biggest issues facing Slot this summer is finding players who are capable of playing for the reigning Premier League champions.

Fenway Sports Group are generally prudent with the club’s finances, which may make it difficult for Liverpool to compete for their desire transfer targets.

Slot has admitted that prohibitive transfer fees may prevent him from making the necessary improvements to his squad this summer.

“I think it would be a surprise if I were to tell you now ‘yes, we are looking at this and looking at that’,” Slot told Sky Sports.

“We don’t talk about contracts here so we don’t talk about the positions or if we want to improve the team in certain areas.

“That’s the most difficult thing for a club like Liverpool if you just won the league is that it is not easy to find better players than we already have.

“And if they are there then they still need to be affordable and need to want to come. That last thing is mostly not a problem, by the way, but transfer fees sometimes are.”

Can Slot Bring Home Title Number 21?

Premier League 2025/26 Outright Betting

The Reds will likely have most to fear from Man City next season. They made several shrewd moves during the winter transfer window with an eye on next season.

With the club guaranteed to conduct more business this summer, Pep Guardiola’s side should mount a strong bid to wrestle the title back from Liverpool.

Arsenal and Chelsea will also expect to be in contention, while Man United cannot be written off if they back manager Ruben Amorim this summer.

Winning the title next season will not be as easy for Liverpool, but they should be in the mix if they acquire their desired targets in the upcoming transfer window.

Doubts about Slot’s ability to guide Liverpool to back-to-back titles also factor into the equation. Retaining a trophy is always harder than winning it in the first place.

Slot was mindful not to take an axe to the tactical system he inherited from former manager Jurgen Klopp, preferring to make subtle tweaks to the system.

However, bringing new players into the mix may require him to tinker a little more, and there is no guarantee that the changes he makes will deliver the desired results.

Handling the pressure of being champions adds another layer of difficulty for Liverpool, and it will be intriguing to see if they can cope with the weight of expectation.
