Mignolet’s horror show cost us yet again, but it’s surprising how the Klopp is still not ticking
When Jurgen Klopp was appointed as Liverpool manager, quite a few Borussia Dortmund players were instantly linked with a move to Anfield. These rumours of players moving from the Westfalenstadion to Merseyside gathered pace as the Reds squad slowly disintegrated as we lost a host of players to injury. Pretty soon, we Liverpool fans started dreaming of having some of Dortmund’s biggest talents ply their trade for us in the Premier League.
The truth however, could not have been any farther from this notion that we had. Jurgen Klopp is not a man who splurges in the transfer market in order to find a shortcut to success. He is a man who believes in people and he believes in giving them opportunities to succeed. He also believes that they will improve.
This belief of his however, is something that is beginning to bother me because I feel that it may be the only reason why some of our current players are still here at our club. While quite a few players need to leave in my opinion, the only one that I’m going to concentrate on today is our world renowned goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet. I understand that Klopp likes to trust his players, but trusting this guy is proving to be a bad decision, again and again. Had it not been for him, we’d have won our game against Arsenal last night.
Conceding at your near post is a major crime in itself for any goalkeeper but doing it twice in the same game is an unforgivable sin. Especially the manner in which we conceded our second goal is something that we cannot let happen. Conceding straight from a corner is such a humiliating way to let in a goal but we’ve been so pathetic between the sticks that we’ve let it happen twice in two games!
Liverpool Football Club cannot expect to move ahead if they keep up with stuff like this and Jurgen Klopp needs to realize that Simon Mignolet has had enough chances to establish himself a trustworthy goalkeeper. This fellow has let us down way too many times and it’s about time we made a move for someone better. Liverpool’s goalkeeping problems though seem to be far more deep rooted than we assumed. Adam Bogdan was supposed to be the best goalkeeper in England outside of the Premier League, and this guy has also let a corer go straight in! Bogdan though, has not had enough chances to make a name for himself and it will be unfair to judge him on the basis of just a handful of games.
Simon Mignolet however, is a whole different story. He’s had almost 100 appearances for the Reds and he’s still not settled in as our number one goalkeeper. Jurgen Klopp needs to cash in on him and I find it hard to believe that our boss is actually eager to offer him another contract, which by the looks of it, should be signed soon. I’m not really sure what Klopp is doing here and I only hope that he gets it right.
